Hyderabad: 6-member gang held for lifting motorbikes

15 cases against gang.

Hyderabad: A gang of six, including three juveniles and students, who watched Youtube videos to hotwire bikes and were involved in 15 cases of bike thefts in the city, were apprehended by the West Zone Police of Hyderabad on Tuesday. The gang used to target only high-end bikes and sell them to customers by promising original documents, police said.

The arrested were identified as Mohammed Sohail, an electrician, Mohammed Gafoor Khan alias Arbaz and the juvenile students. DCP, West Zone, A.R. Srinivas said that all six offenders were from a poor background but addicted to a luxurious lifestyle and vices which made them resort to crime.

“The gang watched Youtube videos on ‘How to steal bikes with techniques’ after which one of the juveniles, a Polytechnic student, hatched a plan to commit bike thefts. In March 2018, they stole a bike in Pahadi Shareef area and used it to commit other offences. The stolen bikes were handed over to Arbaz Khan who lived in the same locality. He would sell the stolen bikes to needy customers at low prices and promise that the original documents would be provided to them within one week.” said the official.

On August 10, the gang stole a parked KTM bike near Ring Road in the Langer House Police Station limits. They were arrested by Langer House Police when they were moving suspiciously in the area. The case was detected with the help of a small CC camera footage which recorded their offence. “The gang targeted only costly or sports bikes, like Royal Enfield, Yamaha FZ R15, Pulsar NS and KTM,” the police official said. “They used to roam around residential areas during night time and commit thefts of such bikes by breaking handle locks and hotwiring them by using the techniques they learnt from Youtube.” added the official.
