Chennai police seize Rs 50,000 worth gutka, two held
Chennai: In two different cases, the city police have detected the supply of banned gutka products and seized Rs 50, 000 worth gutka and other tobacco products here on Monday. Based on a tip off, a special team headed by Superintendent of police, R.K. Nagar, raided the premises of a snacks bar in Carnation Nagar in Korrukupet and were able to seize the products.
According to the police, 6 kgs of gutka products worth Rs 5,000 and a mixer grinder, used to grind the products was found to be in the possession of the accused N. Bakthavatasalam (51) of Tondiarpet. He was arrested and investigation is on.
Similarly, Mohammed Abdul Shak (36) of Ramanathapuram was in possession of over 400 packets of banned paan masala, worth Rs 45,000 in from his shop on TH road junction in Triplicane. He was arrested by the Triplicane police and was remanded to judicial custody.
