Chennai: 5 held for selling liquor illegally, 52 bottles seized

Twenty-two liquor bottles were seized from them. The arrested five were remanded in judicial custody.

Chennai: Cracking down on those selling alcohol illegally, five people who were found to be selling liquor in two different places in the city were arrested by the police on Monday and a total of 52 liquor bottles were seized.

Based on the tip-off, a special team of police headed by the Taramani Superintendent of Police, had conducted a raid in Rajaji Street in Taramani on Monday evening and recovered 30 bottles of liquor from them.

Following the raid, the Police arrested R. Malliga (40) of Taramani and her son R. Karthik (19) and 30 bottles of liquor was seized from them.In another case, R. Shanthi (58), S. Paravathi (70) of Shenoy Nagar and P. Radhika (27) of Kilpauk were selling liquor in Jothiammal Nagar in Saidapet and were arrested. Twenty-two liquor bottles were seized from them. The arrested five were remanded in judicial custody.
