ALAPPUZHA: The anti-goonda squad constituted under the District Police Chief on Friday arrested a gang including a wanted criminal from Haripad. The arrested were identified as Praveen 34, of Kadakkal, Kollam; Ahammed Mashookh, 19, of Uppala, Kasargod and Navas 20, of Majeswram. Police chief V.M. Muhammed Rafeeq said that Praveen was the gang leader and was in state police's most wanted list of criminals.
The special squad conducted search in different locations including Kayamkulam, Mavelikara, Haripad and Chengannur after getting a tip that the gang used to smuggle ganja into the district from other districts. The team led by Kayamkulam DySP K Sadan arrested the gang. Praveen was imprisoned for many years on theft cases and was released on bail four years ago.
