Chennai: Spurned lover slashes girl's hand, arrested
Chennai: In a shocking incident that reminds one of the sensational Swathi murder case in Nungambakkam railway station two years ago, a spurned lover slashed a girl’s hand with a knife at Ennore railway station on Wednesday.
The girl, who had sustained cut injuries in her hands, is said to be out of danger and is undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital. Police arrested B. Kaviyarasan (22) of the same locality.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 5 pm on the platform of Ennore railway station where Kaviyarasan and the victim met for a talk. “Kaviyarasan is a relative of the victim and they have been in a relationship for a while. But the girl had been shunning him of late,” police said.
Kaviyarasan thought the girl had started getting closer to another person and was hiding from him. “On Wednesday night, he called the girl to the Ennore railway station to talk about the relationship and sort out the issues between them. When the girl reached the railway station, Kaviyarasan confronted her and allegedly asked about her new relationship,” police added.
The girl also reportedly told him that she would marry the other boy instead of Kaviyarasan. Infuriated by this, Kaviyarasan took a knife, which he was concealing, and slashed her hand. “The girl immediately collapsed. Panicked by his act, Kaviyarasan called the police control room and told them a chain snatcher attacked his relative,” police said.
The police rushed to the spot and took her to a nearby hospital. However, during the investigation, the girl revealed the actual incident after which the police secured Kaviyarasan. He was remanded to judicial custody on Thursday.
