Chennai police recover cash, gold from financier's abductors

The accused had distributed the money to his friends to collect them after the release.

Chennai: Although the abductors of a Vadapalani-based financier claimed that they had donated the ransom money to Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirupati, police found that they have lied and recovered Rs 33 lakh and 28 sovereigns from them after a ‘special treatment’.

The ransom amount collected by abductors Krishnaraj (29), Vinoth (29) and Manikandan (23) was recovered from Karaikudi, Arani, Coimbatore, Madipakkam and Selaiyur and the trio was remanded to judicial custody on Thursday.

According to Vadapalani police, the trio surrendered after the intensive police hunt last week and the police took custody of them for the drilling. “The main accused Krishnaraj had said that he had donated money to the temple on the advice of his wife, in a plan to spend the money after the release. But his wife’s statement contravened and the police ‘drilling’ made him spill the bean,” police said. The accused had distributed the money to his friends to collect them after the release.

The police had already arrested five persons including Sudhirkumar, who was the friend of victim Mohan. On May 23, financier Mohan was abducted along with his relative Manickam for the ransom and was released after the handing over of the ransom.
