Bengaluru: With drunken driving cases on the rise, the police have also come across a disturbing trend of drivers of essential service vehicles, including school buses and ambulances, driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Wednesday a milk tanker driver was caught driving under the influence of alcohol. Kamakshipalya traffic police have booked one Ambarish for drunken driving at Sumanahalli Junction and seized the vehicle.

“While on patrol, we saw a milk tanker being driven in a rash manner at Sumanahalli Junction. We intercepted the vehicle and found the driver was drunk,” the police said.

The city traffic police had launched a special drive a few days ago to check on drunken driving, especially by the drivers of essential service vehicles and booked a few cases involving school bus and ambulance drivers.

On Tuesday, an ambulance driver Nagaraj (30), working with a private hospital, was arrested by the Banashankari traffic police for drunken driving in Girinagar 2nd stage. He was so drunk that he rammed into two cars parked by the roadside.

In this month three cases of drunken driving were booked against school bus drivers at the Old Airport Road, Mico Layout and Wilson Garden traffic police station limits during special drives.
