Hyderabad: Woman found dead, kin say it's murder
Hyderabad: A newly married woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her husband's house in Malkajgiri. The woman’s relatives alleged that her husband and in-laws had beaten her to death. The victim, S. Leevathi, had reportedly faced frequent torture from her husband S. Shashi Kiran Reddy and in-laws for additional dowry.
During post-mortem examination of the body, forensic doctors found several injuries on her body including deep wounds on her wrist and ribs. Malkajgiri police booked her husband and in-laws for murder and dowry death.
Meanwhile, the suspects claimed that Leelavathi hanged herself to death after cutting her wrist. They claimed that they broke the door and tried to rescue her.
When police came to the house, the body was lying on the floor. The suspect told the police that they cut the noose and took her down.
Leelavathi’s relatives said she got married in October 2015. “At the time of the wedding, we paid him Rs 10 lakh, 100 grams gold and three acres of mango grove. One month after the marriage, he started demanding more money. Last January, when she came home, he and his parents refused to take her back. Later, our elders solved the issue by paying Rs 1 lakh,” said a relative.
Police officials said the victim was tortured by her husband and his mother Usha since many months. “We booked a case under Section 302 (murder) and 304A (dowry death). An investigation has been launched. The cause of death will be revealed after the autopsy report comes out,” said inspector Janaki Reddy.
