70-year-old man accused of rape

Police has now booked a case against Somy Reddy for rape under IPC Section 376.

Hyderabad: A 70-year-old electricity department pensioner allegedly raped his house help twice in the last month when she went to work in his house at Khanamet in Madhapur. When the suspect, identified by the police as M. Somy Reddy, tried to rape the 27-year-old victim for the third time, she escaped and informed her husband and the police.

The victim said that she did not report the assault the first two times because she feared that she and her husband would lose their jobs. Her husband is also employed by Somy Reddy.

According to the Madhapur police, Somy Reddy forced himself upon her when she came to clean his apartment one month ago. “His family was not present at that time. He raped her and threatened her not to reveal it to anybody. He raped her again some days later when his family had gone out,” said Madhapur sub-inspector A. Satyanarayana.

“She had recently informed her sister-in-law, but it did not reach her husband or the police. When Somy Reddy started molesting her again, she pushed him away and ran out of the apartment. She informed her husband, who approached us,” said a police official from Madhapur. Police has now booked a case against Somy Reddy for rape under IPC Section 376 and under the provisions of the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act.
