Hyderabad: Farmer tries to commit suicide
Hyderabad: Protesting the inaction of revenue officials in regularising a piece of land on his daughter’s name, a farmer attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in front of the Suryapet district collector’s office on Monday.
Mr K. Lingaiah claimed that the issue had been kept pending for three years and he had already complained to the revenue development officer, joint collector and even the district collector, but nothing had been done. “With no hope of getting the work done and fed up of harassment at every stage, I decided to end my life with a hope that they will take action at least after my death,” Mr Lingaiah said.
Mr Lingaiah, from Tummalapenpahad in Atmakur(S) mandal, had purchased 3.2 acres of land at Sirikonda village under Mote mandal on the name of his son-in-law G. Venkanna.
His troubles started when he approached revenue officials to issue the patta on his granddaughter’s name. Only the sale deed is on Venkanna’s name. “But citing this, the VRO is delaying the process. He had given consent to the correction, but he is refusing to take up the work. I have been running around offices for the past three years, but nothing has been done.”
