Hyderabad: A video showing MIM Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala leading a mob into a police station and beating up a rape accused has gone viral.

In the video, Mr Balala along with the mob is seen assaulting the accused while he was in police custody on Friday night.

The policemen on duty not only remained mute spectators but were also seen walking away as the MLA and the mob entered the police station.

The 37-year-old man, said to be associated with the MIM, was on Saturday arrested by Chaderghat police for attempting to rape a six-year-old girl.

While most of the cops including higher officials refused to confirm that the MLA was leading the mob into the police station on Friday night, a video evidence confirmed that the MLA not only led his hencmen into the PS but was also the first to hit the accused.

ACP Sultan Bazaar Dr Chetana Mylabhutala said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident. “There seems to be a big group of people involved in the incident. SHO Chaderghat is inquiring and will submit a report. Based on the report, action will be initiated against the responsible persons,” she said.

The police said that Mr Balala was angry that the accused was an MIM worker. However, the MLA remained unreachable.

Legal experts say whoever is involved in the incident is bound to face criminal charges.
