Closed house helps Cyberabad police crack case

Police arrested Achigari Praveen and his father Jangaiah for strangling the former's wife B. Rajeshwari.

Hyderabad: Suspicion about a house which was locked for close to a year, with no news of the whereabouts of the residents, helped the Cyberabad police crack a murder case reported at Nandigama in August 2017.

Police arrested Achigari Praveen and his father Jangaiah for strangling the former’s wife B. Rajeshwari. Police said Rajyalakshmi hailing from Khammam was working at a spinning mill at Nandigama, during which she met Praveen, who drives an autorichskaw.

They fell in love and decided to get married, but Praveen later started avoiding her. She kept pressuring him, and they married at a temple by exchanging garlands and took her to his home at Edulapally in Nandigama.

Given their dislike for her, the father and son killed Rajyalakshmi and dumped her body in an agricultural well about 5 km from their home in July 2017. The body floated to the top in August, and villagers alerted the police who registered the case and began investigations.

Police meanwhile found that Praveen’s house was locked and the family was not seen. Police then contacted Rajyalakshmi’s mother. Praveen and Jangaiah were later traced and arrested. The duo confessed to killing Rajyalakshmi as she belonged to a different community and was earning very little.
