Karnataka: Flat manager molests techie

Akanksha in her police complaint has stated that the incident took place around midnight.

BENGALURU: It was a nightmarish experience for a 23-year-old software engineer when she was allegedly molested at knifepoint by a 24-year-old drunk administrative manager of her residential apartment. The accused reportedly scaled up the wall and entered her balcony in an attempt to rape her in HBR Layout in Hennur early on Sunday morning.

Akanksha (name changed) was living along with two other roommates on the second floor of Ganga Heights Residential Apartment. Akanksha, who hails from North India, works with a tech company at Manyata Tech Park.

Akanksha in her police complaint has stated that the incident took place around midnight. She was sleeping in her room when the accused, Hemanth Gowda, the Administrative Manager of Ganga Heights, barged into her bedroom in an inebriated state and molested her at knifepoint. He also allegedly tried to drag her with him when Akanksha shouted for help and her roommates came running to her rescue, the complaint stated.

Hearing the commotion, the neighbours rushed to the flat, and by then, one of Akanksha’s roommates had managed to push Hemanth out of the flat. The neighbours caught hold of Hemanth and informed the police.

Hennur police rushed to the spot and arrested Gowda. An investigating officer told Deccan Chronicle, “Based on her complaint, Hemanth was booked under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 503 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and arrested him and remanded to judicial custody.”

Sources said that Gowda, a resident of Jakkur, had planned the attack and deliberately stayed in the security guard’s room on Friday night, as it would be easy for him to gain access to the victim’s apartment. However, when DC asked Hennur police about it, they said that Hemanth didn’t scale up the wall but knocked the door of the survivor's flat around midnight and barged inside.
