Hyderabad: Teen nabbed for bike thefts, 10 vehicles seized

According to the police, the boy, a school dropout is the son of construction labourers residing in Borabanda.

Hyderabad: A 16-year-old boy from Borabanda who stole bikes using duplicate keys and sold them for as less as Rs 5,000 was apprehended by Madhapur police on Saturday. He was earlier caught by the city police at Begumpet for being involved in thefts. Police recovered 10 bikes from the boy who has been stealing bikes for the past one year. His friend, a 17-year-old boy who was also involved in bike thefts was apprehended by cops a week ago. He had a passion for Honda bikes.

According to the police, the boy, a school dropout is the son of construction labourers residing in Borabanda. Due to financial problems, he started committing bike thefts. He was addicted to alcohol and Ganja from a very young age along with his friends from the same locality.

He was nabbed a year ago and lodged in the care home, from where he was released in November 2017. After a short gap, he started committing bike thefts from different locations. He used false keys to open the lock and then would speed away with the bike.

He would keep the stolen bike with him for around three days and then dispose it for amounts starting from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000.

On Saturday morning, while moving a bike towards Madhapur from Borabanda, he was intercepted during vehicle checking. When he could not provide the documents, he was taken to the police station for inquiry.

"During inquiry, he admitted that he had committed ten bike thefts from the time he came out of the care home. He used a false key to steal them", said ACP Madhapur N Shyam Prasad Rao.

He was earlier sent to a care home but did not change after coming out and continued the same work. The ten cases included the ones at Madhapur, KPHB, Gachibowli, Sanath Nagar and SR Nagar.
