Killer GHMC driver drunk
Hyderabad: The GHMC garbage truck driver who ran over four members of a family including three kids killing them and injuring two others at Karkhana on Thursday night was found to be drunk. The outsourcing employee lost control over the wheel due to speeding and crashed the truck into the stationary bike on which the victims were sitting. All four victims died on the spot allegedly due to the negligence of police, who reached there late despite an alert, victim’s relatives alleged.
IT minister KT Rama Rao, who was on his way back from his Sircilla constituency, stopped by and made arrangements to move the victims to hospital. The family of six, a couple and four children, were coming from Hasmathpet and going for a wedding at Modern Function Hall in Trimulgherry when the accident happened. The truck rammed the bike when the victim had stopped to talk over phone, Karkhana police said.
The deceased were identified as Shaik Azhar, 37, his son Shaik Aman, 9, daughters Ashfiya Sultana, 7, and Haleema Sultana, 3. The condition of his wife, Imrana Begum, 28, and another daughter, six-year-old Baby Atiya, now being treated at Yashoda hospital, is critical, police said.
“At around 10.15, Azhar and his family, on a TVS XL crossed Karkhana and stopped the bike on the right side of the road as they did not know where the function hall was. Azhar was calling his friend to ask the direction when the GHMC driver going towards Jubilee bus station, lost control over the wheels due to speed and dashed in to the bike,” North Zone DCP B. Sumathi said.
Eyewitness accounts and photographs from the spot indicated that the truck ran over the victims. “The victims were crushed under the truck. It took time to move the truck and rescue the injured,” said Karkhana Inspector B. Janaiah.
Police have now arrested the driver, Kyasanolla Adivaiah.
