Hyderabad: Two sent to prison for selling baby

Hyderabad: A local court convicted two persons for selling a newborn baby and sentenced them to undergo three years of rigorous imprisonment. They were also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
According to Rachakonda police, a case was registered against B. Laxmi and P Renuka, under the Juvenile Justice Act in 2016, at Meerpet police station for selling a newborn baby boy from a hospital.
The police said Laxmi’s unmarried daughter had delivered the baby. With the help of Renuka, she planned to sell the boy for Rs 40,000. The duo was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
After conducting a trial, the Second Metropolitan Magistrate Court at LB Nagar upheld the charges and convicted Laxmi and Renuka.
