Hyderabad: Angry youth held for attack on dry' ATMs

Locals claim over 17 ATMs have not been working at Sultan Bazaar for the past one week.

Hyderabad: Frustrated with dysfunctional ATMs in Sultan Bazaar, a youngster damaged an ATM centre’s door leading to a police case. Cops picked up the youth on charges of vandalism.

The locals say over 17 ATMs have not been working in the area for the last week. The youth, Aamir Khan, 22, a polytechnic student from Santoshnagar, wanted cash to pay his traffic challan after he was stopped by the traffic police at Sultan Bazaar. Amir could not get the cash from any of the numerous ATMs he visited. In frustration, he kicked the door of one of the ATMs breaking the glass pane. The youngster also sustained injuries to his leg.

The incident took place at around 11.30 am when Aamir was stopped by traffic police at Sultan Bazaar main road. The police asked him to clear pending challans amounting to '13,000 and detained his bike.

Aamir told them that he would swipe his debit card but the cops asked him to pay the challan at the Mee Seva and submit the receipt at the police station to get his bike.

The Meeseva staff demanded cash and Aamir went to ATM centres near Koti Women’s College in Sultan Bazaar. None of the machines could dispense the cash. “He kicked the glass pane of two ATM centres,” Inspector P Shiva Shankar Rao said.
