Hyderabad: Chain snatchers rob three morning walkers, housewife

In an hour, three women were robbed of 12.5 tolas of gold jewellery in a 2-km radius.

Hyderabad: Chain snatchers went on a robbing spree on Monday, targeting morning walkers and a housewife returning home after dropping kids at school in Vanasthalipuram area.

In an hour, three women were robbed of 12.5 tolas of gold jewellery in a 2-km radius. In another incident, a woman was relieved of her 5.5 tola gold chain in Saifabad.

Police suspect the same bike-borne gang was behind all the four incidents. Police could not get any clue due to the absense of CCTVs in the areas. The snatchers gave the slip to the ‘Chase and Catch’ teams in the area.

Alivelumanga, 50, a housewife from NGOs Colony, was on a morning walk. Around 7.20 am, two bikers approached her. One of them went up to her and asked about the design the colony had on the main gate. While she was about to explain, he snatched her 4-tola gold chain and fled.

Krishnaveni was robbed at 7.35 am while she was on a morning walk. She lost a three-tola gold chain and suffered injuries on her neck. Around 8.15 am, she was returning home after dropping her kids at school.

“Two bikers came from behind, snatched my 5-tola gold chain and fled. I could not even see the colour of the bike,” said Krishnaveni. LB Nagar DCP Tafseer Iqubal said they were working on clues.

In Saidabad, a 70-year- old woman, who came out of her house was robbed. She lost a gold chain weighing 5.5 tolas. The woman, Damera Amma, staying at Saraswathi Nagar, was watering plants.

She said the biker was wearing a white helmet. The pillion rider wore a jogging suit and had burn scars on his beard. Police suspect the same gang from Vanasthalipuram travelled to Saidabad area and fled through the bylanes after doing the snatching in Saraswatinagar area. Robbery cases were registered in all the four incidents.
