Visakhapatnam: Two drown while taking holy dip
Visakhapatnam: It was a holy dip that ended in a tragedy for two families as their family members drowned near Sagarnagar beach under Arilova police station limits, here on Wednesday morning. The deceased were identified as Duvvi Siva Prasad, 49 and K. Ramana, 45, both residents of Arilova area in Vizag city. Inspector of Arilova police station Ch. Tirupati Rao said that over 50 persons from parts of Arilova came to the beach near Visakha Valley School Road to take a holy dip in the sea on Wednesday morning after staying awake through the night on Maha Sivaratri.
Despite warnings by the police, some people have gone to an isolated place and ventured into the waters, where cops and lifeguards were not there. While they were bathing in the water, three of them were caught in a strong current which took them further deep into the sea. Though the locals at the spot managed to rescue Siva Prasad’s son, D. Yeshwanth, Prasad and Ramana got carried away by the water current.
Acting on information, the police traced Siva Prasad and Ramana and shifted them to a private hospital but were declared brought dead. Ramana was an electrician while Siva Prasad was an employee with a private firm. The police registered a case under Sec. 174 of CrPC and shifted the bodies to KGH for post-mortem.
