Out of Africa! Nigerian stabs Ugandan woman

Attacker picks up quarrel after victim refuses to buy him liquor.

Bengaluru: A 30-year-old Ugandan woman was allegedly assaulted by a Nigerian man, after she refused to buy him liquor. The woman, who does not have a passport, is undergoing treatment and the police are on the lookout for the absconding accused.

Shakira Nsonko, a resident of Kukkenahalli near Banjara Layout, has filed a complaint with Hennur police. The accused has been identified as Onsas.

According to the complaint, Shakira had gone to a hotel run by Joy, who prepares African food, in Banjara Layout around 10 pm on February 10. “She had gone there for dinner and she was drunk. Her friend Gifletin was accompanying her. After a while, Onsas went to the same hotel and had a few drinks. Later, he allegedly asked Shakira to buy him a few drinks.

But when she asked whether she knew him, he reportedly picked up a quarrel. Meanwhile, her friend left the hotel as she had some work. After she left, Onsas allegedly pushed her and slapped her,” the police said.

“Joy, who runs the hotel, came to her rescue, took her inside a room and locked it. The complainant informed her boyfriend Tony about the incident. After sometime, when she came out of the room and was walking towards the parking lot, she was against attacked and pushed by Onsas. He also allegedly assaulted her with a knife and fled from the premises. She sustained injuries on her forehead and by that time Tony reached the spot and took her to a hospital in Kammanahalli,” the police said.

Shakira reportedly did not tell the doctors that it was an assault, but claimed that she was involved in a road accident in Kengeri.

“The accused is known to her boyfriend Tony. After the incident, Onsas reportedly called Tony and told him that he would bear the medical expenses and requested him not to file a police complaint. As part of the procedure, when the hospital authorities contacted the Kengeri traffic police, they said that no accident occurred in their jurisdiction on the night of February 10,” the police said.

“A police team was sent to question her and she changed her statement to say that the accident took place in Babusapalya. When Banasawadi traffic police were contacted, even they said no accident had taken place. The doctors later informed us that it was an injury inflicted by a knife.

When she was questioned, she revealed that she did not want to file a complaint initially. As the accused did not pay the medical expenses, she had decided to file a case,” an official said. The Hennur police, who have registered a case, are on the lookout for Onsas.
