Bengaluru: Two African nationals held for drug peddling
Bengaluru: Koramangala police have arrested three drug peddlers, including two African nationals, who were selling MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy) and other narcotic substances by hiding them inside shoes and socks.
The accused have been identified as John Kennedy, 37, hailing from Nigeria, Canon Audley, 32, from Congo, and Aditya, 22, a resident of Keshavanagar. The two African accused were residing in Muddana Layout in Hennur.
The police said the African nationals had come to the country on student visas and were overstaying.
Police said they received credible information that some African nationals were selling drugs to the college students, private company employees and software engineers near Ambedkar Park in Koramangala.
The police formed a special team and arrested the three and seized 21.59 grams of ecstasy tablets and crystal packets, totally worth Rs 1 lakh.
The police said that John had Nigerian passport and an Indian student visa, but upon verification they found that he had created a fake Indian visa and the visa number belonged to Uganda national.
The other accused, Canon from Congo had come to the country in March 2012 on student visa, which expired in September, 2012. But he decided to overstay and along with John started selling drugs in the city.
Koramangala police have registered a case and are on lookout for another foreign national, who is currently on the run.
