Bengaluru: Notorious gangster who attacked a cop, shot in leg, arrested
Bengaluru: A notorious gangster was shot in the leg and arrested, when he tried to attack a head constable to evade arrest in Byappanahalli police station limits on Thursday.
Police said the gangster, identified as Muralidharan (25), was involved in over 50 robberies and had on December 3 killed a cab driver.
A senior police official said they received a tip off that Muralidharan was seen riding a scooter on Kattalipalya Main Road.
When a police team went to arrest the gangster, he attacked Head Constable Vijay Kumar with a knife in a bid to escape.
Inspector Ramesh then opened fire in the air to warn him to surrender and later shot him in his left leg to stop him.
Both Muralidharan and Vijay have been admitted to the hospital and said to be out of danger.
According to the police, Muralidharan was heading a gang of around 10 juveniles, who used to operate in and around East Division targeting motorists and cab drivers.
After questioning Muralidharan, the police arrested his associate Peter (25) and two juveniles, who are part of the gang and efforts are on to track others.
On December 3, the accused stopped a cab driver Mohan Kumar and fatally stabbed him after he refused to share alcohol. In the melee, Mohan's friend Sandeep, who was also present, escaped and lodged a police complaint.
