Mumbai: Following the arrest of a key alleged drugs supplier, Bakul Chanderia, the Mumbai police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell has learnt that he had been procuring cocaine from Nigerian gangs operating in the city though the investigators are yet to find out the supplier of the LSD dots that were seized from him.
Citing the high profile circle of Chanderia acquaintances, which include Bollywood directors, music composers and actors, the crime branch is also probing the possibility of him supplying narcotics substances to these elites of Mumbai.
“Though he is known to many of these high profile persons, we have not yet found anything to prove that he was supplying drugs to them. If we find that link, action will be taken,” said a senior crime branch officer.
Chanderia is known to run a video library in Khar, which was started by his brother in 1982, ANC officials said. After the police received a tip off that Chanderia has been supplying drugs in the party circuit, the ANC kept him under surveillance and arrested him on Sunday.
The ANC had found cash, 106 grams of cocaine worth '8.48 lakh, LSD dots, 90 in all, worth Rs 4 lakh along, all totalling to Rs 14.56 lakh from his Khar residence. Earlier, Chanderia was booked by the ANC in 2012, however, it was a consumption case.
Currently, Chanderia is being interrogated under charges of peddling as per the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
