Bengaluru: Druggie nephew held for woman’s murder
Bengaluru: The Nelamangala Town police cracked the murder of a home alone woman with the arrest of her nephew, who allegedly strangled her to death using a mobile charger for money to do drugs.
The accused, Raghu (28), a jobless drug addict, was on the run after killing his father’s elder sister Sharada (50). The police arrested the accused and recovered a gold chain and bangles he had stolen from Sharada after killing her.
On the day of the murder, Raghu visited Sharada’s house and asked for a Rs 10,000 loan. Sharada, who knew of Raghu's drug addiction, advised him to stay away from drugs and to get a job.
This led to a fight and Raghu punched Sharada in the face. When she was disoriented, he took a mobile charger and strangled her to near death. Later, he took a pillow and smothered her to death and escaped with the gold chain and bangles that Sharada was wearing.
When the police began the investigation, they were clueless about the angle of the murder and could find only a few clues at the spot. When the neighbours were questioned, they informed the police about a youngster who visited her often.
After questioning Sharada's relatives, the police zeroed in on Raghu. They took the help of one of Raghu's friends, who called him to a place, where the police caught him. During the interrogation, Raghu confessed to killing Sharada for money.
The police recovered the gold chain and bangles he had stolen from Sharada. A case has been registered at the Nelamangala Town police station.
