Telangana: Man beaten up at cop station ends his life
Hyderabad: A 26-year-old man from Nagarkurnool district who was allegedly beaten up by Talakondapalli police sub-inspector Saidababu committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Monday. After his death, Patlavath Raju’s family found a selfie video on his mobile, in which he is seen detailing how the SI has tortured him on his wife's complaint.
Tension prevailed in Raju's native village after the news of his death spread. Security was deployed to avoid untoward incidents, during his final rites. Raju, hailing from Narayanapur tanda in Cherukur gram panchayat under Veldanda mandal, was married to Anjali hailing from Ranga Reddy district five years ago. The couple has two children. Anjali recently app-roached the Talakonda-palli police and lodged a complaint against Raju.
After this, Raju was summoned by the police and counselled in “their style” and let him off. Fearing that he would be “counselled” again, Raju consumed pesticide. He was rushed to the Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad, where he succumbed on Monday afternoon. The selfie video recorded on Raju’s moble phone shows him narrating how Mr Saidababu had tortured and beaten him.
“They beat me severely on my feet, testicles, back and everywhere. They said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has given them permission even to kill if anyone troubles women. They did not even inquire about what happened and started torturing me.” he said in the video. He urged his family to share the video till it reached the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister. “Talakondapalli SI is solely responsible for my situation. He had even told my wife’s family to kill me anywhere outside and inform him,” he said.
