Rs 2,000 fake note caught at Mahbubabad petrol pump

There were reports of fake note seizures elsewhere, including in Karnataka on Sunday.

Mahbubabad: It may be just four days since the Centre introduced the new Rs 2,000 notes, but fake notes are already in circulation.

In Kuravi, a customer named Pradeep produced a new Rs 2,000 note at a petrol pump. The workers there recognised the note as fake and notified the police.

Mahabubabad Rural circle inspector Krishna Reddy said police had arrested Pradeep, a resident of Pendya thanda, in connection with the case. “We seized the fake note. It looks like someone made a colour photocopy of a original note and made a shabby job of cutting the edges. During questioning, Pradeep said he got the note from his brother Anil who works at a shop in Jujjuru thanda near Mullagudem village,” he said.

He said the suspect was being interrogated. “We will find out who is behind it. Meanwhile people must be wary of fake notes and inform us as early as possible,” he said.
