Police intensify search for body of honour killing victim

HYDERABAD: The Patancheru police on Friday arrested five members of the girl’s family from Musheerabad in connection with the alleged honour killing of an 18-year-old boy on October 7.

Even after seven days, the body of S. Shiva Kumar, who was strangled to death in a graveyard and thrown into the lower stream of Hussainsagar, is yet to be traced. Patancheru police said that they are taking help from GHMC and NDRF teams to locate the body.

Bhim Reddy, deputy superintendent of police, Patancheru, said that following a complaint from Shiva’s mother S. Baleshwaramma, a missing person case was initially lodged at Patancheru police station as he did not return home on October 7.

It was later revealed during investigations that the girl’s father M. Bala, 32, along with relatives M. Anand, Balakishtamma, M. Leela and Vattela Krishna, residents of Musheerabad, had found her WhatsApp chats with Shiva.

“They hatched a plan to murder Shiva. They used the girl’s phone to lure Shiva to Ameerpet and took him to a graveyard at Lower Tank Bund and strangled him to death before throwing his body into the water,” said the official.

It was revealed that the accused Anand, who worked as a mason, had a room in the area and knew the stretch well.

Based on the suspicion by the Shiva’s mother and other technical evidence, the girl’s family members were called for questioning, during which they confessed to the crime and the case was altered from missing person to murder under section 302 of the IPC.
