According to the police, Abhiram, the one-year-old son of Doddabheemaiah and Maheshwari was kidnapped from the labour shed, where they lived, at Shabarinagar near Hegdenagar on October 5.

Three people, who had come on a bike around 2 pm, abducted the boy. The Kothanur police, who registered the case, gathered credible information about the kidnappers with the assistance of CCTV footage and call records and arrested the trio. “Investigations revealed that that Shahanaz Khanum had married Firoz Khan, a resident of Goripalya, after her first husband passed away. Khan used to visit her earlier but, of late, had stopped doing so and providing money to run the family. Thus, Khanum hatched a plot to kidnap a new-born and tell Khan that she had given birth to his baby, so that he will have to give her money. She sought the help of the three accused known to her. She told them to kidnap a baby from a hospital, but instead they kidnapped Abhiram,” the police said.

One of the accused, Noorulla, was absconding and police got credible information that he was near Mitaganahalli near Bagalur on Thursday morning. When the police tried to nab him, he attacked them with a knife and thus the police had to open fire to arrest him. He sustained bullet injury in his leg.
