Hyderabad: Ex-L&T staff arrested for cheating unemployed youth

The police said that the duo cheated 12 persons from Hyderabad and collected around Rs 19.75 lakh from them.

Hyderabad: The cyber crime cell of the Rachakonda police on Friday arrested a man, who had earlier worked with L&T, and his woman companion from Nagpur, who cheated unemployed youths in the city under the pretext of providing jobs in Hyderabad Metro Railway Limited (HMRL).

The police said that the duo cheated 12 persons from Hyderabad and collected around Rs 19.75 lakh from them. The police also seized one car, three mobile phones and two PAN cards with different names and other incriminating material from them.

According to the police, Rakesh Patro, 43, hailing from Odisha, and his companion, G. Krishna Kavitha, 34, lured the victims with job offers in HMRL.

In March, Rakesh contacted P. Srikanth from Nagole via WhatsApp with a job offer. Srikanth told him that his sister was looking for a job and submitted her documents. Later, he paid Rs 2 lakh to get the offer letter.

The accused conducted a mock interview and told the victims that the appointment order will be issued soon. Later, he stopped responding to their calls and emails.

Realising that they were cheated, they approached the police.

“While he lured the victims to the trap, Kavitha collected the money,” said Mr Mahesh Bhagwat, commissioner of police, Rachakonda.
