Andhra Pradesh: Thieves loot passengers of Hyd, Charminar Express near Kavali
TIRUPATI: A gang of armed robbers looted passengers in five coaches on the Chennai-bound Hyderabad Superfast Express at about 2 am on Monday, when the train was between between Ulavapadu in Prakasam district and Thettu village in Nellore district. The robbers then halted the train by pulling the emergency chain and escaped into the nearby forests, before security guards on board could reach the coaches.
Incidentally, another gang attempted to rob passengers on the Secunderabad-Tambaram Charminar Express at the same location. they targeted the S1 and S2 sleeper coaches but were thwarted by the presence of railway police personne. The gang members stopped the train and escaped, pelting stones at pursuing police officers.
Railway police sources said four to five dacoits, who allegedly were travelling in the Hyderabad Superfast Express, entered sleeper coaches S2, S4, S5, S6 and S7, woke up the passengers, threatened them with knives and looted them.
Upon the train's arrival at Kavali station, passengers lodged a complaint with the Government Railway Police. The victims reported a loss of approximately 300 grams of gold and cash. The case was handed over to the Ongole railway police.
