Tamil Nadu man Illayaraja killed in Kashmir terror fight
Chennai: A jawan from Sivagangai district in Tamil Nadu was killed in the counter-terror operation in Shopian district in Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday night. Three terrorists were also killed in the encounter.
One of two jawans killed was identified as P. Ilayaraja from Sivagangai. Reports reaching here said that Ilayaraja hails from a village in Ilayamkudi. Son of Periaswamy and Meenakshi, he had joined the army four years back and worked as a sepoy. He got married a year back. His wife, Selvi, is five month pregnant now.
Security forces had launched a search operation on Saturday following information about the presence of militants in Avneera village of Zainapora area of the district, a police official said.
As the security forces were conducting searches, the militants opened firing on them, which was retaliated by the law enforcement personnel, triggering a gun battle.
