Chennai: A 25-year-old AR constable allegedly tried to kill himself with his service rifle while he was on guard duty on Saturday night at Dena Bank on Mint Street. B. Prabhakaran was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when he loaded his rifle cocked the rifle to fire himself. As he had not released the safety lock, the rifle did not fire.
His guard commander saw him and took the rifle from him. Police said the cop was upset with some family issues. He was later admitted to GH for a medical test. Departmental action will be taken against him, a senior official said.
