Karnataka High Court stays proceedings against Kalladka Prabhakar

The police had filed chargesheet and later sought permission to prosecute Prabhakar.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday stayed further proceedings against RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat in connection with the case which accuses him of making inflammatory speech during Virat Hindu Sangama convened at Puttur in January 2015.

Following the complaint by Popular Front of India District Committee Member Ashraf, stating that Prabhakar had hurt the religious sentiments of the people belonging to a minority community by using foul language against them, the Puttur police had registered FIR against Prabhakar.

The police had registered the case under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) 505 (2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC. The police had filed chargesheet and later sought permission to prosecute Prabhakar. The state had granted permission to prosecute the accused.

A court in Puttur had summoned the accused in the matter. Prabhakar had challenged the matter before the high court seeking to quash the case. The court while staying the proceedings against the accused has further ordered issue of notice to secretary and under secretary to home department, Puttur police and to the complainant filed by Ashraf.
