Hyderabad: Friends beat youth to death
Hyderabad: In a bizarre incident, three persons suspecting of fatally beating up a friend brought him to a hospital in the city but fled when they were told that he was already dead. Hospital CCTVs captured the whole drama on Wednesday night.
Police said the three brought in Shoban Babu, an electrician from Nalgonda district, on a bike, put him on a wheelchair at the hospital and took him to the emergency unit. When doctors declared him dead, they fled.
Babu and his friend from Nalgonda, Yadagiri, had come to Hyderabad a few days ago to meet their friend Rajesh in Mansoorabad. On Wednesday night, Rajesh, Yadagiri and an unidentified third person had brought Babu on a bike to Medisis Hospital in Chintalkunta.
Hospital staff tried to catch them as they fled, but instead managed to catch a fourth person, Seshi, a TRS party student wing leader, who had come to help the trio. He was handed over to the police.
“The CCTV footage clearly shows the three who brought him in. Babu’s family members identified two of them as his friends Rajesh and Yadagiri, while the third person is yet to be identified,” police said.
Rajesh had called Seshi after the fight and asked him to help them, but he had not been seen on CCTV with the trio, Vanasthalipuram Inspector P. Murali Krishna said.
Police, who registered a case of murder against the absconding trio, said Seshi’s role in the incident would be established once they were caught. They had, however, detained him for questioning.
“We suspect they had a fight after consuming alcohol near Sahara Estates, during which they attacked Babu with sticks and iron rods. His chest and ribs were fractured in the attack,” the inspector said.
Inquiries revealed that Rajesh is a known offender with a suspect sheet against him in Nalgonda, while Yadagiri also has a past criminal record. The third person who was with them is yet to be identified. Seshi was accused in an extortion case in LB Nagar.
