Hanamkonda corporator Anishetti Murali murdered

Police said the accused were sons of Congress councillor late Janardhan, who was murdered in 1991.

WARANGAL: TRS ruling party corporator Anishetti Murali was brutally murdered by his rivals in his own residence in the Kumarpalli area of Hanamkonda, on Thursday evening. The murder brought back memories of gang wars and murders that were of frequent occurrence in the area some 10 years back. The assailants were identified as Vikram and Viplav and another accomplice. All of them surrendered at Hanamkonda police station after the incident. Police said the accused were sons of Congress councillor late Janardhan, who was murdered in 1991.

Former councillor late Janardhan, who was murdered, was a resident of Kothur in Hanamkonda and Murali was one of the accused in the case. The sons of Janardhan killed Murali seeking revenge for their father’s murder. The incident took place at around 6 pm on Thursday when six people barged into the residence of the corporator and attacked him with sickles. They hacked him repeatedly and left him in a pool of blood. The family members were left unharmed. Later, two of the assailants went to the local police station and confessed their crime.

Till 2016, Murali was TD city president but switched over to the TRS party during the municipal elections. He contested with the ruling party ticket and got elected from 44 Division. Though Kumarpalli and its surrounding colonies were once notorious for gang wars and business rivalries some 20 years back, the area has, since then, calmed down considerably. Incidents of murder had reduced with the police keeping a strict vigil. A police team is stationed at Murali’s residence and to gather clues. The police refused to divulge more details.
