Hyderabad: A traffic constable was arrested by Malkajgiri police for allegedly ‘kidnapping’ a minor girl and marrying her. Though the girl, who is 17-years-old, willingly went with him, B. Saikumar of Trimulg-herry police station, landed in trouble as the girl is a minor. Saikumar claimed the girl was in love with him and they had to elope to get married. However, the girl’s parents alleged that he had kidnapped her.
Based on the girl’s father’s complaint, police had booked a case against Saikumar in February under Section 366A and under Pocso. Police said Saikumar- had fallen in love with a girl living next to his house. "On February 10, we received a complaint from the victim's father that his daughter was missing. He suspected that she was kidnapped by Saikumar. We received information that Saikumar married the girl at Chengicherla on February 11," said inspector Janaki Reddy of Malkajgiri police station. In order to confirm her age, police enquired with officials from Bihar, where the girl hails from. The police then traced Saikumar and arrested him on Wednesday.
