Woman strangulates 71-year-old mother, surrenders to police in Bengaluru
Following a family dispute, a 39-year-old woman, a physiotherapist murdered her mother, 71, stuffed her body in a suitcase and took the same to the police station.
The suspect, Sonali Sen, was living with her husband Subrata Sen, mother-in-law, nine-year-old son and mother Biva Paul, in the first floor of NSR Green apartment on Kodichikkanahalli Road in Bilekahalli, Bengaluru.
Police said that preliminary evidence suggested that around 11 am, Sonali strangulated her mother with a dupatta on Monday morning. Later, she stuffed the body in a trolley suitcase, placed a picture of her father inside and went to the police station in an auto-rickshaw at 1 pm. Then she surrendered to the police.
The DCP (East) C.K. Baba said: “Prima facie, we have learnt that there were some differences within the family and so, the accused woman strangulated her mother to death. She brought the body to the police station because she did not want her family to face any issues.”
A suo moto murder case was registered at the Mico Layout police station based on a complaint filed by SI Sanjeev Gurappa Gol.
Sonali is the only daughter of Biva. They belong to Kolkata and her father died five years ago. Then she brought Biva to her house in Bengaluru.
Biva and Subrata’s mother have been frequently quarreling over some issues and Sonali was disturbed by the frequent fights. She was already disturbed by her hyperactive son who is undergoing treatment.
On Sunday, the two elderly women fought over some issue. Sonali and Biva discussed about the fight when the elderly woman said that they would be solved only with her death. She asked Sonali to kill her by giving her some pills and after thinking over the proposal through the night, she decided to kill her.
On Monday, after Subrata left home for office, Sonali gave around 30 BP pills to her mother and locked her up in a room. She found that Biva was wriggling with symptoms of paralysis. She did not want her mother to suffer and so strangulated her to death with dupatta, police said.
Without telling her mother-in-law, she bundled up her mother’s body into a suitcase and headed to the police station.
After she narrated her story, police took her into custody and began investigation.
