Blade mafia rearing heads again in Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amidst reports that the 'blade mafias' were rearing their heads in the state again, a family at Kadakkavvor near here were attacked allegedly by a money-lending racket. However, the police suspect the veracity of the allegation. The issue came to light on Monday after the video footage of a gang trying to forcibly evict and threaten the complainant and his family as well as threatening them on Sunday came out.
Since the incident took place on the eve of the maiden meeting of Chief Minister Pinarayai Vijayan with police officers across the state on Tuesday, the issue of blade mafia may draw attention at the meeting. Solomon of Kulamuttom in Kadakkavvor and his family were forcibly evicted from the house by one Selmi and her relatives.
It was alleged this was done by the gang as Solomon had failed to return Rs 12 lakh borrowed from Selmi by pledging the house. Solomon had borrowed the cash to visit Israel. However, Selmi maintained that Solomon had sold the property to her for Rs 18 lakh in April as it was about to the attached by a co-operative bank for Rs 5.6 lakh dues.
The Kadakkavoor police which initiated a probe into the incident said that the records of village office and sub-registrar office show that a sale transaction had taken place. Selmi was also in possession of the sale deed and all documents pertaining to the property, including the prior deeds. Though Selmi seemed to be not involved in any money lending business, some of her close relatives were allegedly involved in such activities.
“We have received complaints from both sides and separate cases would be registered. Talks were also being initiated between the two parties,” police said. Solomon went to Israel along with his family in search of a job. But he did not get any attractive job and hence decided to return. He allegedly entered the house using a spare key.
