Priest accused of grabbing woman's hand, Rs 49K theft

Hyderabad: A priest has reportedly been taken into custody for allegedly misbehaving with a woman guest during a thread ceremony and escaping with a bag containing Rs 49,000 ‘biksham’ money from a farmhouse in Gandipet. The victim’s family on Saturday, lodged a complaint with Cyberabad SHE teams regarding the incident that occurred on May 8.

The complainant, P. Prasad said he had retained Kartik and paid him Rs 10,000. “One of my guests informed me that the pujari caught her hand. When my family members and I rushed to the mandapam, Kartik managed to flee with the bag containing Rs 49,000 along with a silver plate,” Prasad alleged.

He said the priest had turned abusive when the family contacted him. Later, he stopped responding. Prasad said the victim was counselled by the Cyberabad She Teams who also assisted in lodging a complaint.

Narsingi sub inspector P. Anik Kumar said police had booked Kartik for misbehaving with a woman.
