Police form many teams to nab thief

Hyderabad: Police suspect that an unidentified person who held a pregnant woman and her elderly mother hostage for several hours at their house in Road No. 52 in Jubilee Hills, and fled with Rs 8 lakh cash on Saturday, was familiar with the victim’s family.

Police spotted the accused, stated to be six feet tall and in his mid-thirties, at 11.30 pm near the victim’s house, via CCTV footage. The victim’s house as CCTV cameras but there was a technical problem with recorder. Police said the robber, who spoke with a Telangana accent, used the elderly woman as a shield. After collecting the cash, he switched off the victims’ mobile phones, locked their house from outside and fled in the cab at 10.20 am towards Shadnagar.

He reached Shadnagar bus stand at 11.30 am where his clear picture was first captured from a CCTV camera installed in the bus stand. Police have taken the driver of the cap the accused used, for questioning.

Police said the victim called the police only at 12.30 pm.

Seven teams from the west zone and a task force along the IT cell are working on the case. Police checked footage from 270 CCTV cameras but could not find a picture which had a clear picture of the accused's face. A special watch has been posted for him. Reliable sources said his pictures had been circulated among the police personnel.
