Karimnagar: Tractor mows down Two kids

Police said the incident took place in Yelagandala village of Kothapalli mandal, where the parents had come for a visit.

Karimnagar: In a tragic incident, a pair of twin children who were sleeping under a tree in front of their house were killed when a tractor ran over them in Karimnagar district on Monday.

According to the police, the two children, identified as Laksmibai and Ramu, 7, belonged to the family of daily-wage labourers Yellappa and Kamalamma, residents of Karikeli village of Nanded district of Maharashtra state.

Police said the incident took place in Yelagandala village of Kothapalli mandal, where the parents had come for a visit. A tractor was parked beside the tree where the children had gone to sleep. Without noticing the children, the tractor driver started the vehicle and put it in reverse gear.

The two children came under the wheels of the tractor. Laxmibai died on the spot while Ramu suffered serious injuries. The family members of the children hailed a passing vehicle and tried to rush Ramu to a nearby hospital. The child died while they were still on their way.

The police has registered the case and started an investigation. The driver absconded and police is looking out for him.

This is the second incident of a sleeping child being run over. On Sunday, a girl who was sleeping on the pavement near the Yadadri temple succumbed to her injuries sustained when a police patrol car ran over her last week.
