Man from Hyderabad arrested in Mumbai for keeping firearm

Four months ago, Waheed Ali had purchased a 9 mm country-made weapon from some Uttar Pradesh natives and kept with him.

Hyderabad: A city man was arrested by the Mumbai police on charges of purchasing and possessing a country-made firearm. Shaik Waheed Ali of Bharathnagar in Madannapet police station area runs a business and is also into real estate. He is also an active MIM supporter.

Four months ago, Waheed Ali had purchased a 9 mm country-made weapon from some Uttar Pradesh natives and kept with him. The person who had sold him the weapon said he would give the ammunition at a later date.

Waheed Ali received a call from the illegal arms dealer who asked him to come to Mumbai and take the bullets.

“The Mumbai police caught the arms dealer and on his information nabbed Waheed Ali who had come to collect the bullets. He was arrested and produced before the court. After obtaining police custody from court, the Crime Branch (Detection) DCB team brought him to the city,” said a senior police official.

The DCB team along with the Mumbai police conducted a search at his house but failed to get any weapon. The Madannapet police said that a history sheet which was maintained against Waheed Ali was closed in 2016 for good behavior. It is now being reopened, a police official said.
