Hyderabad: A club dancer was allegedly molested by a cab driver and his friends in Ghatkesar on Friday midnight. The girl who knew the cabbie had called him to drop her in Uppal.
Ghatkesar Police registered a case and launched a hunt to nab the accused.
Police said the 23-year-old victim, who hails from Krishna district in AP, was married four years ago and stays with her husband in Balanagar.
Her husband left for Vizag 10 days ago and she came to her old room in Sitaphalmandi. She used to travel in cabs previously and had made friends with a driver identified as Ravi from Tarnaka. She would would call him for pick and drops.
On Friday night, when she wanted to go to Uppal, she called Ravi. When he came to pick her up, she found three others in the car. Ravi said the others were passengers who had hired the cab to go to Srisailam, but he would drop her on the way.
They offered her alcohol after which Ravi drove towards Medipally and parked the vehicle in an isolated area. There, Ravi and the three others tried to force themselves on her. When she refused they molested her, the victim told the police.
The woman recovered and raised an alarm. Fearful of being caught, they dropped her near Big Bazaar in Medipally and sped away. With the help of the passersby she called police and Medipally Police rescued her and handed over her to the woman police.
“She claimed that they molested and assaulted her. A woman inspector recorded her statement and after medical examination, she was shifted to rescue home” Ghatkesar police officer Ch. Chandra Shekar said.
A case of outraging modesty and causing hurt was registered and teams were formed to trace the suspects. Police said that they visited Ravi’s room in Tarnaka but found it locked and his mobile phone was switched off.
