Hyderabad: Nursing home MD held over foeticide
Hyderabad: After being pulled up by the Hyderabad High Court, the city police finally arrested two doctors and a supervisor of a private nursing home in Saidabad on Friday for practising illegal abortions and female foeticides.
The police arrested the managing director of Gayatri Nursing Home, her husband, and the supervisor, a Class VII dropout, under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act.
The arrested were identified as Dr Rachana Singh, the managing director, her husband Dr Kiran Kumar, and Sarwari Unnisa, the supervisor who doubled-up as quack, said the police.
A video shot by someone in a secretive manner was submitted to the Hyderabad High Court in the case against the nursing home.
On Tuesday, the HC rapped police authorities for failing to take action.
Stating that it would issue an order to the commissioner of police if it was not satisfied, the Court told the city police to file an action-taken report by April 17.
The arrests were made on Friday after the High Court ordered a special officer from the city to do so.
