Action to be taken against jawans soon, say Bengaluru cops
Bengaluru: Though a first information report (FIR) has been registered against the army men for not only obstructing traffic policemen from discharging their duties, but also assaulting them and robbing the cops of their walkie-talkies, mobile phones and the fine amount, it will not be an easy task for the police to bring the offending army men to book.
The Commercial Street police have registered the FIR against K.B. Singh and 25 other army men, who assaulted three traffic policemen, including a sub-inspector at the KR Road-Cubbon Road junction on Tuesday evening. Singh, who was detained by the police, was escorted by his superiors back to his barracks on Tuesday night.
“Our men are following the procedures to make the arrests,” said a senior police officer. “Nobody is above law and there are procedures to arrest army personnel. We initially have to give it a written report, describing the incident and then have to identify the culprits. As of now, we are in the process of procuring evidence against them to make the arrests,” the officer said.
Evidence is in the form of CCTV footage, mobile footage and eyewitness accounts, both from the police and public. Singh was a pillion rider on a bike that entered the one-way from a wrong side on Veerapillai Street on Tuesday evening.
