Kerala High Court rejects P Jayarajan plea on Kathiroor Manoj murder case

The accused submitted that the UAPA has been charged against them without getting the permission from the state.

KOCHI: The High Court has rejected the plea by CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan seeking more time to present his arguments in the Kathiroor Manoj Case. The court observed that the arguments in the case should be completed in one or two days. The case was posted for further hearing on Wednesday. Jayarajan and other accused in the case had approached the HC to quash the police action of slapping UAPA against them. The accused submitted that the UAPA has been charged against them without getting the permission from the state.

The court observed that both the central and state governments have the right to grant permission for slapping UAPA and it would be ridiculous for the centre to wait for the permission of the state government in the matter. The accused has also submitted that the CBI has not sought the permission of the committee constituted for granting permission to use the UAPA.
