Hyderabad: Woman cheated by Gulf job agent

The agents convinced that Ratnam should go to Oman to overcome her financial problems.

Hyderabad: A woman, who was sent to Oman under false hopes by two illegal recruiting agents, is forcefully working in a household.

The victim, Perla Sesha Ratnam, a homemaker from the Velichuru village in Atreyapuram mandal, approached the agents, Bhavana Ramu and Swarna Latha, who belong to Nidadavolu mandal in West Godavari district. The agents convinced that Ratnam should go to Oman to overcome her financial problems.

Warah John, the victim’s brother, said, “We are aware of the agent Bhavana Ramu because he has sent my wife to Dubai about four years ago. He had also sent four other people. Seeking his help, my sister also wanted to go out and earn money. Unfortunately, we made a mistake sending her there. It has been a year and a half that we last spoke to my sister.”

When Ratnam last spoke to her family, she mentioned that Swarna Latha misled her and sent her to work for a woman named Tualsi. She also mentioned that she was made to work for 18 hours a day without any wages. She also mentioned how she was tortured mentally and physically by Tulasi. Ratnam’s family has been trying hard to get her back but all their efforts have gone in vain. On February 9, they filed a complaint with the Consular Service Management System.

POW (Progressive Organisation for Women) member Sandhya said, “Most of the people who come from rural areas do not know how to make money for themselves. They easily in give into the luring techniques of such agents because of their desperate situation. Most people who go to Oman and Dubai come from below the lower middle classes. They are aware of such frauds and fake agents often take advantage of such innocent people.”

People of old city often suffer because of such fake agents. There are a number cases registered with the Begumpt police station, but there has not been any solution so far.
