Bengaluru: 1 dead in lorry, truck collision
Bengaluru: A lorry and container truck collision claimed the life of a 20-year-old lorry cleaner while leaving its driver seriously injured on NICE Road in Electronic City past Friday midnight.
The lorry, being driven in a harsh and negligent manner, rammed into a stopped container truck on the roadside. The police have identified the deceased as Prem Kumar, a native of Walajapet in Vellore. The injured Babu, who was driving the lorry is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The incident took place at around 12.30 am when the speeding lorry rammed into a parked container truck. The driver of the lorry, police said, could not notice the stopped truck as it had no blinkers on.
The side where cleaner was sitting hit the truck and the impact of the crash was such that Kumar got stuck inside the mangled part of the lorry and his left leg was dismembered. Passers-by informed the police who called for a crane to the spot.
But, the crane which was supposed to clear the mangled lorry itself fell in a gorge on the way to the accident spot. The crane that started from Thalaghattapura toppled midway near Kumaraswamy Layout as its driver lost control over the vehicle.
The driver of the crane as well as a few helpers who were heading to the accident spot in the crane sustained injuries in the accident. The police had to call another crane to the accident spot to separate the collided lorry and the truck.
Kumar who was stuck in the lorry was extricated and rushed in an ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The driver Babu has been booked under IPC section 304-A for causing accidental death due to rash and negligent driving by the Electronic City traffic police.
