Woman accuses BMTC driver, conductor of abuse
Bengaluru: A BMTC bus conductor and driver have been accused of trying to molest an employee of a software firm. Following a post on Facebook by the woman, the Subramanyapura police took up a suo motu case and interrogated the accused driver and conductor on Friday.
Conductor Chandrakanth Nayak, driver Raju and two others have been accused of misbehaviour by the woman. But repeated efforts by the police to reach the woman went in vain as she did not respond to the phone calls.
As per her post, she works in a software firm on Bannerghatta Road. On January 10, around 8 pm she boarded a BMTC bus at Ragigudda bus stop in J.P. Nagar to reach Uttarahalli Circle.
She narrated that the conductor was supposed to return Rs 6 change to her, but when she asked him he allegedly told her to write him a 'love letter' and only then he would provide the change.
When she objected, the conductor, driver and two others misbehaved with her. Though she asked them to stop the bus, the driver refused.
Meanwhile, an ambulance was passing by and it led to traffic jam, due to which the bus slowed down. She claimed that she jumped from the bus to save herself. A traffic policeman, who was at the spot, came to her rescue. She stated that she was saved from being Bengaluru's 'Nirbhaya'.
Following the post, the police took up the investigation and picked up the erring driver and conductor from the R.R. Nagar BMTC depot. "When questioned, they admitted that there was an argument over returning her change and but refuted her claim that they had misbehaved with her and she had jump from the bus. We have tried to contact the victim over the social networking site and also collected her phone number from her office. But she is not replying. She has also deleted her post after it appeared in television," the police added.
Now, the police are waiting for her response to initiate any action against the accused BMTC staff.
