Bengaluru: 2 held for honey trapping techie, extorting money

The accused were allegedly running an NGO and its office was located in a building belonging to a former corporator.

Bengaluru: Two people, who are said to be close associates of a former corporator, have been arrested by the Vijayanagar police for allegedly honey trapping a software engineer and trying to extort him.

The accused have been identified as Anand Achar and Ravikumar. The police have reportedly detained two women in this connection. The accused were allegedly running an NGO and its office was located in the building belonging to a former corporator, with whom they reportedly had close links.

According to the police, the incident came to light after a software engineer was extorted of Rs 10,000 from the accused. "The accused posted advertisements on 'Locanto' website, giving their contact details and photos of girls. If anyone approached them, they asked them to come near Vijayanagar metro station. As soon as the customers reached there, they sent 2-3 girls, who brought the customer to their office. The accused would then force the customers to remove their clothes and photograph them with girls," an official said.

Using those pictures, they used to extort money from them. "In this case, the software engineer had paid Rs. 10,000 first. But when the accused starting demanding money again, he approached the police. Preliminary investigations reveal that the accused were involved in the crime from the last few years and extorted more than 50 people. In some instances, they had also physically assaulted customers who tried to resist," the police added.
